My application was strongly supported by my employer (a board of cross-industry digital advertising trade associations) and was thoroughly prepared ahead of submission, with several months of back-up research. Without going too much into details, I’d kindly ask anyone who wants to share their own experience with the same application (now or in the past) to help understand how the selection process works, and hopefully exchange some insights for future applications. My application was rejected and no feedback was provided despite my express (and kind) request.

With over 100 faculty, fellows, and staff, plus a much larger number of students and affiliates, the Centers global community works collaboratively on diverse issues at the nexus. In other cases the fellowships are directly related to a focused program run at the Berkman Klein Center and are non-employee roles. In some cases project-based positions are considered employee fellowships and are funded. I have recently applied to the 2020/2021 Fellowship term at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, with proposed research on digital political advertising. The Berkman Center for Internet & Society is a university-wide center housed at Harvard University studying the intersections oflaw, policy, technology, and practice. Fellowship positions announced in this manner often, but not always, involve direct work on ongoing Berkman Klein projects.

I have worked for the past 3 years as online data protection and information transparency professional at the EU level and still operate on the field as we speak. I am a 29-year old international applicant, with a Master of Laws obtained in a European university. At Harvard University, the title of University Professor is an honor bestowed upon a very small number of its tenured faculty members whose scholarship and other professional work have attained particular distinction and influence. Students and researchers are involved in a number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the University, such as the Center for Research on Computation and Society, the Institute for Applied Computational Science, the Data Science Initiative, and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society.
